The Gun Store Named 2009 Retailer of the Year
by National Shooting Sports Foundation
Las Vegas, Nev. – The Gun Store, a federally licensed firearms retailer in Las Vegas, Nevada, was named the 2009 Don’t Lie for the Other Guy Retailer of the Year by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry.
Bob Irwin, owner of The Gun Store, accepted the award at the firearms industry’s annual trade show, named the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) show, which is owned and sponsored by the NSSF.
“For their implementation and support of the Don’t Lie for the Other Guy anti-straw purchasing program, helping to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms, NSSF is proud to recognize the outstanding work of The Gun Store,” said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.
About Don’t Lie for the Other Guy
Don’t Lie for the Other Guy is a national campaign led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) to better educate America's firearms retailers on how to detect would-be straw purchasers and to raise public awareness that it is a serious crime to buy a firearm for a prohibited person or for someone who does not otherwise want his or her name associated with the transaction. The campaign was developed by NSSF and ATF in 2000 and has been active in more than 20 cities.

"If you've still got time to kill, there are lots of other things you can do in Vegas. You can hit the Liberace Museum; the small, overpriced, but legit Gallery of Fine Art at the Bellagio; and the weird zoo exhibits of tigers and dolphins at the Mirage. You can get Thai food at Lotus of Siam at the strip mall on East Sahara Avenue or, better, the Mexican restaurant in the same mall that serves one dish: a sublime goat taco. You can go to the Gun Store, just off the Strip on Tropicana Avenue, where you can — without anything more than a driver's license — spend the day shooting Tommy Guns, AK-47s, SAWs, Uzis, M-16s and MP-40s for less than $100. If that doesn't complete your fully American experience in the most American city in America, you can always go to a chapel to marry a stranger."

GUN SLINGING IN LAS VEGAS
Wednesday, August 19, 2009
By Robyn Eckard
I’m arriving at the Las Vegas airport, a town I visit regularly and what does my wandering eye see as I ascend from the arrival level to the baggage claim via escalator? An ad the size of a freight truck for a little place affectionately called ‘The Gun Store.’
It only takes me about six seconds to read the well written ad and find that I, regular joe citizen, can shoot semi-automatic weapons at a local indoor range for a nominal fee. Hmm. When the hell am I ever going to shoot a semi-automatic rifle or a Gloc in my lifetime. As an automotive industry girl, OC mom and part-time travel freak the answer there is, oh, now and only now.
I check into The Red Rocks Resort, way off the strip, but worth it if you are looking to relax and enjoy the scenery and take in some hiking in Summerlin. The next day, based on the airport ad, I hopped in a cab and headed to The Gun Store.
Here you can choose from a variety of weapons and just pay for the ammunition. You can also choose your target. I chose a Glock hand gun and an M-16. Both had kick for my five-foot frame. The pistol knocked my ear protection back with every shot. I found the M-16 a bit easier to handle. Either way it was crazy awesome.
Check out The Gun Store in Las Vegas for a one-time opportunity to shoot semi-automatic weapons and other fun guns– unless you are in the military then this will be boring.
Range Report - The Gun Store Las Vegas

When in Vegas there are certain must see attractions. For us this included a trip to The Gun Store Las Vegas. It was worth the price of admission!
One of the great thrills for any gun enthusiast is being able to shoot something that you can't own. Such is the case for us in California with many firearms. Still, most enthusiasts living in more gun friendly states may never get around to owning a Class III firearm. There's still an opportunity to shoot these weapons and The Gun Store is just the place to do it.
When you visit The Gun Store you're immediately greeted by a knowledgable and friendly staff. It's nice to visit a range that emphasizes customer service. We were blown away by the sheer number of employees working at The Gun Store Las Vegas. The range generates a lot of business, but we still were attended to immediately and most customers, whether at the range or the pro shop, won't have to wait to be helped.
Firearms and accessories line the walls as far as the eye can see. We've mentioned before how deprived we are in California. Whether you're a law enforcement professional or just a hard core shooter, you'll be able to find everything you need here. It's just too bad that we can't take most of this stuff home with us. Different training classes are available also for security, concealed carry and general education.
Of course no visit is complete without a trip to the range. When you walk into the range section you're immediately greeted by the staff and a wall full of automatic weapons for you to try. Submachine guns, assault rifles and crew served belt-fed machine guns are all available. There are several packages available. You can shoot one weapon or even shoot everything that's on the wall! Once you decide what you want to try, you're handed loaded magazines and a target and directed to a waiting line for shooters.
No one is left to their own devices when renting one of the fully automatic weapons. Instead, one of their expert staff will accompany you into the range and give you instruction on handling and firing the weapon. They will also clear the weapon in the event of malfunction. Most of us have never handled such firearms before, so the added security of an expert to guide you is most welcomed. Our instructor JB is a former Navy man and knew his stuff. His instructions were clear and precise and we felt comfortable the entire time.
Our visit to the Gun Store Las Vegas was a dream come true. We'd like to thank COO Chris Irwin and his staff (Wrangler, Greg, Randy, JB and everyone else) for their hospitality. The Gun Store is a first class facility and we recommend everyone visit whenever they're in Sin City. When you stop by be sure to tell them you found them on GoShootingToday.com
