Home firearm safety

Most any week, the media reports some incident involving an accident with a firearm. Although, these incident numbers have decreased dramatically over the past 20 years, even one is too many. This is especially true when the shooting involves a child to young to know better.

Be a responsible firearms owner! Lock-up your guns and ammunition (separately) and away from children and irresponsible adults. Use a safe with a combination lock or a gun lock that takes a key to open it and keep the key with you. Given enough time children can open any "child proof" container. Hiding your gun does no work. When you are gone, curious children will search everything in your home. Locks can and do save lives. If you feel the need to keep a loaded firearm in your home for defense, store it in a locked gun box. Many are available that open with a finger touch combination pad that are easy to access in the dark with a little practice.

When handling your firearm:

• Always keep it pointed in a safe direction
• Always keep your gun finger off the trigger
• Always keep it unloaded unless it needs to be loaded
  

The Gun Store presents FREE 2 hour firearms Safety Classes twice each month on the 1st and 3rd Friday starting at 9 AM. They also offer a FREE one hour children's gun safety class for ages 5 - 12 on the 2nd Friday of each month.
